I don't get it...
I was doing a little search on Google for Reel Butter and much to my shock, there is another film related site that is using the name reel butter. It's www.reelbutter.net to be exact. Now, this really bothers me.
I don't have any big stellar site here but I can't imagine you would think of a name for a site (like reel butter) and not look on Google to see if anyone else is using it. When I started out, I had Reel Butter in mind (this was in 2000) and the only thing that mentioned Reel Butter on the web was a fishing related site. I thought that was OK since it had nothing to do with film.
Now we have these people, whoever they are, using www.reelbutter.net. Which is a really bad move. One cause people will get the two of us confused and secondly, cause I don't get a ton of hits. So if they thought it would help their traffic, they are in for a shock.
Anyway, what I was thinking now since others have found the coolness in the name Reel Butter (there is also a radio show using the name, as well as a bed and breakfast) and now that theaters are offering Real Butter, maybe it is time I move on from the reel butter name.
Maybe a new name, a new idea, a new design and a new site. I have this other web site I have to build for my one and only client, I have my film work, I have the projects I need to get done, a screenplay I have to write (As well, having to write it as a comic book) and so very much more.
So maybe it is time to let it go, let go of the name Reel Butter and let others use it for a while. See, I have always been of the thinking, if you hold on to ideas too tight, as if you will never have a better one, you are probably right. I can come up with something as clever as Reel Butter, maybe even more so and I will make sure no one else is using it. If I like it enough, I might even trademark it. I am still not sure if I am going to give www.reelbutter.com up but I am thinking very serious about it.
I will try to keep hold of everything I have written, even things I have written poorly, to put on a new site, should I decide to go that way. I will try and keep you all posted. I will try and do a better job at whatever it is I am doing next.
Sincerely,
Head Honcho
